TOKYO - The last quarter of 2008 proves to be a nightmare for Japan, as the economy contracts 12.7 percent on an annual basis, the most since 1974. Compared to the third quarter of 2008, the contraction stands at 3.3 percent, evidence of a performance much worse than that of the European Union and the US.
