CUNEYT ULSEVERBy taking three important steps, namely recording progress in the Cyprus issue, liberating broadcast in mother’s tongue and releasing Zana and friends, the Turkish Republic got rid of three important burdens.  The Kurd-dominated provinces must have appreciated the right direction taken by the government because, DEHAP which still makes politics on ethnicity, suffered a 25 % fall in its votes in the March 28 local elections to 561 thousand votes. It loss of votes all over Turkey is about 300 thousand, in spite of its collaboration with SHP. Now we observe that the same party has totally failed to realize the meaning of the decision to set Leyla Zana free and the recent developments taking place in Turkey. At a time when PKK terror is suffering a big ideological depression globally, attempting to mediate between the government and PKK is an effort, which is too late.  The government has waken up very early on this issue, and already covered a distance. This offer is too late and too futile. Demanding freedom of Apo on the top of this, is something which ignores the majority of this nation totally, which is ego-centric and which does not respect the law in any way and which is ethicist and which makes the people say that “That is enough!” Besides, it is a behavior that totally rejects the concept of the 21st Century which demands co-existence and which says that “My ideas are important, not yours. The legal principle of punishing crime is not important at all!” “ When people do not know where to stop, other can not keep themselves from asking that “Are these deliberate efforts to strain the country for further developments?”” With such a mentality, both Kurds and Turkey lose. IN my opinion, DEHAP buries itself, in history.
