The terrorist attacks on Istanbul's Beth Israel and Neve Shalon synagoues on November 15, 2003 were remembered yesterday at a memorial at the Sishane Peace Monument. Speaking at the service, the head rabbi of Turkey's Jewish community, Rabbi Ishak Haleva, said "We are bound up in Turkey, intertwined in this country. In the attacks, innocent people lost their lives. There are people amongst us who still bear the effect of the attacks."

Carnations were placed yesterday at the business across from the Neve Shalom synagoue, site of death and destruction only two years ago. Aydin Kara, who lost his vision as a result of the attacks, yelled out during the ceremony, "I lost my eyes. My wife is gone. My life has been destroyed, and who will answer for all of this?"
