Six miners have died after a coal shaft partially collapsed in the Black Sea region of Turkey. The miners were poisoned by methane gas following the collapse of the shaft. The tragic mining incident happened in the Back Sea town of Zonguldak on Thursday evening reported the Anatolian agency. Anatolian reported that the incident happened on Thursday night, and that rescue operations worked through the night, but it just wasn't enough to save the six miners. Energy Minister Hilmi Guler attended the funeral service on Friday. It is not the first incident of its type in Turkey where mining accidents are quite common due to lack of maintenance on the mines. It was only in April of this year that seven coal miners died from methane poisoning under similar circumstances in the town of Gediz. The worst mining disaster in Turkey was recorded in 1992 when 270 miners died in a methane gas explosion.Â
