State Minister and Prime Minister Assistant Abdullatif Sener said yesterday that, with its 9.9% growth during 2004, Turkey appeared to have the fastest growing economy in the world. Noting that over the past three years, Turkey had boasted an average 7.9% growth performance, Sener lauded Turkey's growth record. Sener also noted that the growth Turkey is experiencing makes it the OECD's fastest growing economy. Sener revealed that Turkey's GNP for 2004 was estimated at 301.5 billion dollars.     Recalling that the projected growth had been for a lower 293 billion dollars, Sener said that combination of growth and GNP put Turkey at the forefront of world economies. Sener noted that in the face of an 8% budget deficit and the estimated public debt would bring the national income levels down to 82.3%. He said that these levels were 126.9% in 2001, 105.6% in 2002, and 91.5% in 2003. Said Sener "Last week the Treasury announced these rates as of September 2004 as 64. But the national income level has actually been dropped to 63.5." Â
