Addressing the nation of Turkey last night, Erdogan said: "The Turkey we see now is not the Turkey we inherited. Turkey's image has changed. Let's not forget that we have arrived at today from days of "The Midnight Express," economic crises, and major weaknesses in democracy. Turkey today is a point of interest for the entire world, it is a center of attraction."

He continued: "If today in Turkey the gap between the rich and the poor has begun to shrink, if the buying power of minimum wage has begun to increase, if the basic characteristics of the republic have become the shared values of the people of the nation, then this means we are on the right path. And this is what I mean when I talk about social restoration."

Erdogan stressed the emergence of the middle class in Turkey, noting "Some of the most important gains for Turkey during this period have been political and economic stability. In addition to the new image we are giving off outside our borders, the emergence of the middle class is also one of the most important signs of this stability we have achieved. Thank goodness we finally have a dynamic and not static, strong and not fragile, economy which looks towards the future, and which does not just try to rescue the day at hand."
