ISTANBUL - The PKK will halt its armed attacks against Turkish targets until July 15, a Web site associated with the terror organization said Monday.

"The PKK is extending the cease-fire by … one and a half months to July 15 in order to allow for a peaceful resolution of the Kurdish problem," Firat News Agency, the PKK's mouthpiece, quoted the terror organization as saying in a statement. Â

In April, the terror organization PKK had announced it would halt armed attacks until June 1. But dozens of Turkish security forces have been killed in attacks carried out by PKK terrorists within this period.  Â

The statement came as Turkish officials signaled that work was under way to end the PKK’s terror activities and solve the decades-long Kurdish issue in a democratic and peaceful way.

Turkey has long been struggling with the PKK, which launches cross-border attacks on Turkey from bases in northern Iraq and frequently uses remote-control landmines to target the country's security forces.

The PKK is listed as a terrorist group by Turkey and much of the international community, including the EU and the United States.
