One in a hundred families apply to poverty fund

Exactly 1,117,147 families applied to the Project for the Relief of Social Risks, unable to register their children at a school or afford to have medical check-ups. It was determined that 7 out of every 100 families in Turkey had applied for poverty relief.

The report by the Special Commission for the Struggle against Poverty and the Distribution of Income, created as a part of the Ninth Development Plan, carrying out the duties of the State Planning Organisation (DPT), has been prepared. The report mentions the Project for the Relief of Social Risks, launched in connection with the Fund for the Encouragement of Social Assistance and Solidarity, as the most successful and effective institution.
According to the report, 1,117,147 families have applied for economic help since the end of 2005, the equivalent of approximately 6.5% of the population of Turkey.
