Yesterday in Istanbul, a group of people protesting the broadcast of new episodes of the controversial series "Valley of the Wolves" showed up in front of the Show TV buildings in Levent with posters calling for termination of the new series.

Speaking for the group, Umit Kara noted that their aim was not to encourage censureship, but that they were protesting the depiction of a man who "killed without blinking" as a hero. "Valley of the Wolves" has been blamed for what critics say is its relentless violence, and its portrayal of a murderous gang as legitimate members of society. Contrary to speculation prior to the broadcast of the new episode last night, the nationalist MHP Party did not in fact run advertisements during the breaks in the show. Commenting yesterday, MHP Deputy head Mehmet Sandir criticized what he called attempts to link the MHP with violence, noting "It is very unfair, this attempt to tie the MHP with violence. Devlet Bahceli (MHP head) and Sandir did not go to the 'Valley of the Wolves-Iraq' film. But Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan did, with his wife Emine Erdogan. There is no connection between MHP and violence."
