ISTANBUL - The historic villa in the Büyükçekmece district of Istanbul is to become a children’s cultural center. The villa once belonged to a very important name in Turkish history, one Enver Pasha, a politician and soldier during the late Ottoman Empire.

Pasha used the villa when he went on hunting trips to the district, which is now home to many apartments. The Enver Paşa Villa, built in the beginning of 1900’s, burnt down twice in 2005. The two-storey wooden villa that was badly damaged in the fires waited two years to be restored.

An Istanbul special provincial administration began restoration work in 2007 by strengthening the structure of the building, renovating the ceiling, stairs, floors and furnishings. The restoration was completed in March 2008. The villa, whose restoration budget was 430,000 Turkish Liras, took on a whole new look. With certification from the Commission for the Protection of Cultural and Natural Heritage, the will be opening its doors to children.
