DENİZLİ - Businessman Esat Sivri was given a symbolic key to the ancient town of Laodicea by the Pamukkale University.

A large section of Laodicea, one of the seven holy cities mentioned in the Bible, was unearthed after six years’ worth of archaeological digging in the Western city of Denizli.

Sivri, 75, was one of the names that sponsored the project and was paid tribute by Pamukkale University.

Speaking at the ceremony, the governor, Yavuz Erkmen, said that Sivri has been an important asset for the community. "Credit to Sivri, as he is a pioneer in social issues in Denizli," said Erkmen, underlining that Laodicea is extremely important for the city. "Sivri paid a lot of efforts while the history at Laodicea is unearthed."
