MUĞLA- For years, İztuzu Beach has been popular with Caretta Caretta sea turtles and now local authorities are to repay them for their continuing visits.

A Caretta Caretta Research, Rescue, Rehabilitation and Information Center will be established in Iztuzu due to a protocol signed by the Special Environment Protection Institution, or OCKK, Nature Protection and National Park General Administration, or DKMP, Dalyan Municipality and Pamukkale University.

In the Mugla district on Dalyan’s coast, well-known for its natural beauty, Iztuzu beach will become home to a very important center to protect the Caretta Caretta, which are facing extinction. Iztuzu, previously selected as one of the best coasts in the world, is also known as a place to host sea turtles. Turkey’s coastal areas become home to nesting Caretta Carettas every year. Pamukkale University’s professor of Biology, Yakup Kaska, noting that they have been doing feasibility work on the centre for a while, said the center would be open to all people who wanted to study the Caretta Carettta.

Kaska, providing information about the center, said that they would treat all injured Caretta Carettas in the center and monitor their progress.

"All people who want to research the Caretta Caretta can come to the center," he said. "The only thing is to apply to OCKK for permission to benefit from the center."
