Gul will not applaud Greek Cypriots

Turkey officially told Athens that Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul would join the ceremony, in which the Greek Cypriot Administration would be admitted to EU as a member, instead of Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan. Gul will reportedly show the reaction of Turkey by leaving the ceremony hall without applauding Greek Cypriot leader Tassos Papadopoulos when he is signing the agreement.

The Greek press said that Erdogan turned his back to this historical meeting, claiming that such actions would cause Turkey to alienate from EU and to get into the grip of the military structure in Turkey. Greek Foreign Minister Yorgo Papandreou told Ta Nea newspaper that he hoped there would be no tension with Turkey.
