-- 9TH WAVE AND AFTERSHOCKS
Houses of former high ranking executives of the National Security Council, Supreme Court of Appeals Chief Prosecutor's Office and Higher Education Board (YOK) were raided in the 9th wave of the Ergenekon operation. The shocking investigations led to strained developments. The incidents started after the arrest of retired General and Former Secretary General of National Security Council Gen. Tuncer Kilinc, General Staff Judicial Adviser Gen. Erdal Senel, and former Chairman of YOK Kemal Guruz. Some 40 people were detained in simultaneous operations launched in six provinces on the directives of Prosecutor Zekeriya Oz.
       
-- THEY WANT TURKISH SOLDIERS TO GAZA
Both the West and other regional countries gave the green light to an inclusion of Turkish troops as part of an international observers group planned to be formed if Israel ceases its operations toward Gaza and in the case of a possible ceasefire. However, Ministry of Foreign Affairs denied the news reports that Turkey would be assigned in Gaza as U.N. peacekeeping forces.

Some 37 people were taken into custody in the 10th wave of "Ergenekon" inquiry. The operation, for the first time, was extended to include members of the judiciary. Force commanders held an extraordinary convention. The Supreme Court of Appeals will convene tomorrow. Opposition parties reacted.
       
-- KIDNAPPED TURKISH SHIP RELEASED
Turkish ship "M/V Yasa Neslihan", which was kidnapped on Oct. 29, 2008 in Somalia, was released after a ransom was paid. On the other hand, the crew of Turkish Karagol ship, which was hijacked on Nov. 12, 2008, sent a letter and said that they were in a bad state and that they were treated badly.
       
-- 21 PERCENT INCREASE IN PRESIDENT'S SALARY
The salaries of civil servants were increased by 4 percent in the first six months of 2009. The president's salary, which was 15,247 TL in 2008, rose 20.9 percent to 18,434 TL in 2009. The prime minister's salary increased from 9,400 TL to 9,790 TL.

-- TSUNAMI IN ERGENEKON
The 10th wave of detentions in the Ergenekon investigation took place on Wednesday. A total of 38 people were detained in 6 provinces upon the demand of Prosecutor Zekeriya Oz. Retired generals Tuncer Kilinc, Kemal Yavuz and Erdal Senel, writer Professor Yalcin Kucuk and journalist Engin Aydin are among the detained. Security teams also searched the buildings of the Istek Foundation and Yeditepe University owned by former Istanbul Mayor Bedrettin Dalan who is currently in the United States and the home of Sabih Kanadoglu, honorary chief judge of the Supreme Court of Appeals.
       
-- GENERALS GATHER IN ANKARA
Turkish force commanders held an extraordinary meeting at the General Staff headquarters yesterday. In the meantime, their wives paid a visit to the house of retired general Tuncer Kilinc who was detained within the scope of Ergenekon investigation.
       
-- ATTACKS SHOULD STOP, KANADOGLU
During the search at Sabih Kanadoglu's house, his laptop was backed up, however Kanadoglu was not detained. Upon the developments, Kanadoglu said that attacks against the state of law should stop.

-- FROM TOP OF STATE TO POLICE CAR
The 10th wave in the Ergenekon inquiry hit people who were once at the top of the state. A total of 37 people, including two retired generals and nine on duty officers, were taken into custody in seven provinces.
       
-- EXTRAORDINARY MEETING AT GENERAL STAFF
Turkey’s General Staff took action when there were nine officers on active duty were among those taken into custody within the scope of the Ergenekon inquiry. General Staff Chief Gen. Ilker Basbug called force commanders to the General Staff HQ at 5:30 p.m. (1530 GMT) yesterday. Only Naval Forces Commander Admiral Metin Atac could not participate in the meeting as he was abroad. Commanders assessed the situation until late into the evening.
       
-- TURKISH SOLDIERS ON WAY TO GAZA
Israel and Palestine accepted Egypt's peace plan. An international force will be deployed in Gaza. Turkey will be assigned to protect the international force.
       
CUMHURIYET
-- BIGGEST WAVE OF ARRESTS IN ERGENEKON
Simultaneous operations were waged in six cities within the scope of the 10th wave of the Ergenekon probe: 37 people, including military officers and judges, who were known for their views against the Justice and Development Party (AKP), were arrested. Retired generals Tuncer Kilinc and Kemal Yavuz, investigative writer Prof. Yalcin Kucuk, former chairman of the Higher Board Of Education Prof. Kemal Guruz, retired general Erdal Senel and Independent Republic Movement Deputy Chairman Engin Aydin are among those arrested. Yalcin Kucuk said, "I get arrested in all dictatorships." Former Mayor of Istanbul Bedrettin Dalan will be arrested when he returns from the United States.
       
-- NATURAL GAS CRISIS FAVOUR NABUCCO
Russia cut off the natural gas flow to Europe after it cut the gas flow to Turkey via the Western line. These developments made Turkey's hand stronger. Experts say many countries would support the Nabucco project during the "Nabucco summit" scheduled to take place in Budapest on Jan 26-27.

-- 10TH WAVE OF ARRESTS IN ERGENEKON
Early Wednesday morning, security forces arrested the former chairman of the Higher Board of Education (YOK), Prof. Kemal Guruz, retired general Kemal Yavuz, former National Security Council's chairman retired gen. Tuncer Kilinc, retired gen. Erdal Senel, and former Special Operations director Ibrahim Sahin in Ankara under directives from prosecutor Zekeriya Oz. Documents and personal computers of the suspects were seized by police. Police searched the residence of Honorary Chief Public Prosecutor Sabih Kanadoglu, but did not arrest him. Former Mayor of Istanbul and the founder of the ISTEK foundation, Bedrettin Dalan, was the target of the Istanbul leg of the operation. Foundation buildings belonging to Dalan –who is currently in the United States -- were searched by police and his son was arrested.
       
-- FORCES COMMANDERS HOLD MEETING ON ERGENEKON IN GENERAL STAFF HQs
The arrest of three military officers on active duty along with three retired generals stirred the General Staff. Force commanders and Gendarmerie commanders assessed the recent situation with the participation of judiciary advisors, under the chairmanship of General Staff Chief Gen. Ilker Basbug, at the General Staff HQs, on Wednesday.

-- ONE STEP TO NUMBER ONE
One step is left to revealing the leader of the organization "Ergenekon". A total of 35 people, including important names of the “February 28” process, were detained yesterday. Upon the demand of prosecutor Zekeriya Oz, security teams waged operations to 40 addresses yesterday morning. The former head of the Higher Education Board (YOK), Professor Kemal Guruz, the former chairman of the National Security Council Tuncer Kilinc, Professor Yalcin Kucuk and retired generals Kemal Yavuz and Erdal Senel were among the people detained in the operations.
       
-- QUESTION THAT GETS DALAN INTO TROUBLE
Istanbul's former mayor Bedrettin Dalan had brought together retired gen. Veli Kucuk, who was detained within the scope of Operation Ergenekon, and former police chief Serdar Sacan, who questioned Tuncay Guney for nine days, at his office at Yeditepe University. Receiving such information, Yeni Safak daily asked Dalan whether Sacan gave Guney's interrogation tapes to Kucuk during such a meeting. It has been revealed that Dalan, who was afraid of being detained, flew to the United States after the conversation. Police seized several documents belonging to Dalan during an operation conducted in his office at his university yesterday.
