“In a caricature I saw in Mad, a world-famous humor magazine, a policeman was walking towards a man with a baton at his hand. The defendant was wounded on his face and it was evident that he was beaten. The defendant asks to the policeman that, “My bother, I told you all I know yesterday. I answered all of your questions. Why do you beat me today once more?” The policeman answered, “I wanted  to double-check.” “This is only a caricature, but it is evident that the issue of torture is at least mentioned in conversations in U.S. I am telling this caricature to you in order to remind the great things we realized in Turkey. There is still death sentence in U.S. We removed it. It is evident that there is beating and torture too. We are spending efforts to prevent them. The whole Europe should know that the steps that we have taken in the last two years can not be despised.“Almost everybody says that Turkey is passing these laws not for EU but for her own democracy. I think a little bit differently. Of course, it is necessary for Turkey to realize this democratization. But, all of us should admit the reality that we speed up these laws in order to commence the accession talks. Could these laws be passed in such a speed from Parliament, if there had not been such a pressure on us? “I think that we should not have a complex on this issue. Yes, we are realizing these reforms to enter EU. Is it bad for us?”�
