A Belgian parliamentary delegation held talks with Lutfi Elvan, acting chairman of the EU Adjustment Committee, at the Turkish parliament on Friday.

During the meeting, Elvan said Turkey expected two more chapter headings to be opened to negotiation during France's rotating presidency of EU.

"We know our homework for EU membership and we are aware of such responsibility," he said.

He also said Turkey requested from the union and its members a fair and transparent membership process.

Turkey should be treated the same as other countries in its EU negotiation process, Elvan added.

"This is a mutual contract between Turkey and EU. Trying indirect ways in such contract would not contribute to the union's prestige," he said.

Maurice Bayonet, a Socialist parliamentarian from the Belgian delegation, said both Belgium and his party supported Turkey's EU membership.

Bayonet also said EU's previous enlargement process took place rapidly and certain conveniences provided for former candidate countries were not offered to Turkey.
