EDİRNE- Alcohol and dancing dominated a meeting held by the ruling party’s branch in Edirne in Thrace over the weekend where the local Roma association provided the entertainment.

The Justice and Development Party, or AKP, Edirne branch’s dinner for its four potential mayoral candidates Saturday attracted 850 people.
While alcohol was not on the menu, those who wanted it could order it. At the four-hour meeting attendees consumed 30 bottles of Rakı and 100 bottles of beer. The AKP Edirne branch deputy leader, Demirkan Çağlayan, introduced the potential candidates and hosted an auction where two carpets featuring the prime minister’s face sold for YTL 5,750. The AKP Edirne branch leader, Mustafa Suiçmez, said the menu for the night was prepared without alcohol, but added, "Anyone can drink whatever they want. We respect people’s lifestyles."
