VAN - As long as there is immunity no depositions will be given, said the co-chairman of the Democratic Society Party, or DTP, at a rally in the southeastern city of Van. A court has sought the depositions of five lawmakers from the DTP on terrorism-related issues.

Türk said his party would strive for freedom until the very end. He said local election results proved the public’s desire to see democracy strengthened. Saying that the pressure politics of the last 30 years have only resulted in solutions being blocked Türk added, "When we look at today, the sounds of peace and dialogue are growing not just only in Turkey but the whole region."

"But we see that while on the one hand there are discussions to solve the Kurdish problem in a peaceful and democratic manner, military operations are carried out in Lice, Kulp and Gabar," he said.

Türk said the DTP was respectful of the law but despite having immunity its members were being called to give depositions. He said these actions were unlawful and not witnessed to date.

"We made efforts to preserve the unitary state of the country. We said we are not separatists but we are still deemed to be engaged in separatist activities," he said.
