-- BAYKAL TO ENTER HIS 10TH TEST
Having served as the chairman of Republican People's Party (CHP) since 1992, Deniz Baykal succeeded in getting elected as the CHP chairman for the past nine conventions. The CHP is holding its 32nd convention on Saturday. This will be Baykal's 10th test and he will compete against Haluk Koc, Umut Oran, Ayhan Yalcinkaya and Tolga Yarman.

Turkish director Fatih Akin's film "The Edge of Heaven" received four Lolas at the German Film Awards on Friday night including best picture, director, editing and screenplay.

-- THREE SOLDIERS KILLED IN CUDI
Three soldiers (one of them a major) were killed while chasing a large group of terrorists who sneaked into Cudi mountain from Iraq. Also, one private was wounded by stepping on a land mine. Operations are under way in Kupeli, Herekol and Bestler Dereler regions too.

A new development occurred yesterday regarding Qatari partner of Sabah-Atv which was bought by Calik Group. The company's name was previously announced as "Al Wasaeel International Media Company", but then it was changed as "Lusail International Media Company".

Hasim Kilic, chief judge of Turkey's Constitutional Court, said that initiatives to rescue regime by non-juristic ways only collapses the country. He said, "democracy and secularism cannot be spoken in a place where a minority or majority was banished from political participation due to its beliefs."

Major Ercument Turkmen and private Murat Dogru were killed in a clash which emerged between terrorists and security forces in south-eastern province of Sirnak.

-- BIG CIRCULATION LOSS IN SABAH
The circulation of Sabah daily was affected badly when 25 percent of Sabah-atv was bought by Qatari Amir who governs his country with sharia. The circulation of Sabah daily was over 400,000 before it was handed over to Calik group and its Arabian partner. Its circulation dropped more than ten percent after the hand over.

-- ONE MAJOR AND TWO PRIVATES KILLED IN CUDI
A clash erupted during an operation which was staged against PKK terrorists at Cudi Mountain with participation of 1,000 commandos and 300 village guards. Major Ercument Turkmen, corporal Murat Dogru and a gendarmery were killed in the clash.

Chief judge of Turkish Constitutional Court Hasim Kilic warned against polarization in Turkey. Kilic said that, due to the ongoing closure case against AKP, the Constitutional Court was under pressure from groups both out of Turkey and in Turkey.

-- HUNGER LINE GOES UP TO 717 YTL
According to a Turkish labor union, hunger line in April rose to 717 YTL for a family of four people. Hunger line in March was 696.78 YTL.

Possible peace talks between Syria and Israel under mediation of Turkey drew attention. Leader of Israeli settlers in Golan wrote a letter to Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and said; "the model which solved Hatay issue should be applied here too."

Hasim Kilic, chief judge of Turkey's Constitutional Court, said that secularism was the assurance of existence of different religions, beliefs or unbelief together.

Chief judge of the Turkish Constitutional Court Hasim Kilic said that Turkey must make a new constitution. "A new constitution is the need and desire of the Turkish nation," Kilic said.

-- IT IS IMPOSSIBLE FOR CLOSURE CASE AGAINST AK PARTY NOT TO HAVE AN IMPACT ON ECONOMY, DINCER

One of the senior executives of Sabanci Holding, Haluk Dincer, said that the closure case against the ruling AKP poses a serious risk. "It is impossible for the closure case against the AKP not to have an impact on the economy," Dincer stressed.
