The draft, prepared by the Tobacco and Alcohol Market Regulatory Authority (TAPDK), includes heavy regulations from a ban on the display of alcohol on shelves to advertisements.

The Islamist-rooted Justice and Development Party (AKP), claiming to be the strong defender of personal rights and freedoms in society, has been long criticized by opponents over de facto implementations aiming to limit social life.

The draft regulation bans on advertising of alcoholic drinks through public media organs. It also blocks sponsorship of alcohol producers to sporting events, clubs and organizations.

The ban would also include all publications and broadcasts that could be perceived as promoting the consumption of alcohol.
