Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan who is on a five-day Australian tour this week told Australians that Turkey would take proper care to preserve the battlefield at Anzac Cove in Turkey, where Australian and New Zealand forces invaded the peninsula on April 25, 1915, during World War I. Erdogan also said he would call on the Australian tourism industry to invest in the Gallipoli Peninsula to ensure its survival, calling on Australia's private sector to support the preservation.
"We would invite the Australian tourism investors to come and look at Gallipoli," Erdogan said.
