ANKARA - 'A Thousand Heartbeats,' a new play by the Ankara State Opera and Ballet Modern Dance Theater, greets audiences of the new art season. The play is made up of three different choreographies, each of which are independent.
The Ankara State Opera and Ballet Modern Dance Theater, or MDT, brings together a number of themes on the stage in a new play "A Thousand Heartbeats" (Bin Kalp Atışı). The first new play of the dance theater for the 2008-2009 art season is made up of three different choreographies.
The choreography named "InIn" has been produced by Annabelle Ochoa, who previously visited the capital to work with MDT. The play is enriched by Johann Sebastian Bach’s violin concertos.
The choreography "Satie," whose music was composed by French composer Eric Satie, who generally composes for French romantic movies, will make its world premiere in Ankara. Ochoa has prepared the costumes, fans, tuxedos and bowler hats that are used in the play, especially for MDT.
The third choreography in the play is "Attraction" (Çekim), by Deniz Alp and Ejder Keskin, who have worked with MDT since its establishment. The choreography is accompanied by Emre Kesim’s empirical music.
To say ’I love you’ through dance steps
Speaking to the Anatolia news agency, Ochoa said she was very pleased to be working with MDT once again. She said she had prepared two different choreographies for "A Thousand Heartbeats," adding that the one named "Satie" had theatrical elements, which highlight the dancers’ talent on stage.
Ochua said she brought the same music with different versions onto the stage, adding the play includes "different forms of love." "It is really amazing. The audience will see different states of saying ’I love you’ on the stage. Let them come and view us, they will be surprised. I want them to love this play," she said talking about her work, and added "Marie Antoinette will come to the capital."
Ochua said her other choreography would be accompanied by Bach’s violin concertos, adding "Performers are dancing together with the same rhythm and feel the music." She said the both choreographies’ theme and style were different from each other. "Crises, financial problems, troubles can be overcome through music, art and dance. I’ll be very happy if I can succeed." As for Attraction's dancers, Alp said they prepared the choreography together with Keskin, with whom they had been dancing for a long time. She said they would be on stage with the dancers Selçuk Göldere and Özlem Feyman.
Second new play in April
MDT Art Director Bürge Kayacan said she expected the first play of the season to attract attention from its audiences. She said "A Thousand Hearts" was made up of three different choreographies and did not have a common theme. She said they would bring a new play to the stage April 18 following that one. "This play, titled ’Three Breathes’ (Üç Nefes), has been staged in Bonn Biennial and received very good reactions," Kayacan added. Kayacan said the 15th anniversary of MDT was celebrated last year, and that the play named "15th Anniversary" would be staged during the season.
