The funeral for Lieutenant Colonel Alim Yilmaz, killed in a PKK-detonated mine blast outside of Elazig, took place yesterday in Ankara, and was attended by crowds including top level members of the government, as well as the Turkish Armed Forces. Standing strong in the face of her tragedy, the widow of Lieutant Yilmaz said at the services, "I have two sons like lions. I am bringing up two more soldiers."

The funeral for Lieutenant Yilmaz was held in Ankara's central Kocatepe Mosque. Yilmaz' mother, Ummu Yilmaz, said she had dreamt her son's death early in the morning on the day he and another soldier were killed when their jeep ran over a mined road.

Meanwhile, in Istanbul, at the funeral for Private Sinan Gumustas, also killed in the Elazig blast, friends and relatives of the 21 year old private condemned PKK terror, and called on citizens of Turkey to "support the flag." Gumustas' sister, Sinem Gumustas, wearing her brother's military tags around her neck, cried at the funeral, calling out "What kind of government is this? Can they not kill the terrorists? I will wrap bombs around my body and go kill them myself. My brother died for this flag. Everybody must stand behind this flag."
