US thanks Turkey for help

The US government issued a written statement thanking the Turkish people and officials for their support and assistance in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, on Tuesday. The message relayed by the US Embassy in Ankara said, "Turkey, as a friend and ally, is greatly appreciated for all help given to the hurricane victims. ''The Embassy expresses its sincere gratitude to the Turkish authorities and the Turkish people for the solidarity and concern they have shown in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. We greatly appreciate the public statements of sympathy and support made by Turkey's leaders in the wake of this terrible tragedy, and we are grateful for Turkey's generous offer of assistance for the relief effort,'' said the Embassy.Â
