US State Department spokesman Sean McCormack yesterday at a press conference warned against a possible Turkish intervention against PKK terror forces in northern Iraq, saying "From our perspective, any wide-reaching intervention by Turkey in Iraq will not bring about a long term or permanent solution."

McCormack, who was answering questions from reporters regarding the possibility of a Turkish entrance into northern Iraq, underscored the US administration's belief that the solution in dealing with the PKK would come from cooperation between Ankara and Baghdad.

McCormack also noted that PKK terror was a "shared worry" for Turkey and the US, but underscored that PKK terror had not arisen recently, and was something "Turkey had struggled with for a long time."
