    Turkey's Drive to get Girls in School

    Turkey is on a drive to lower the rate of illiteracy among young girls by paying families to send their daughters to school. The incentive initiated by Education Minister Huseyin Celik and UNIICEF is part an attempt to bring the number of female students in line with European standards.The English daily, The Guardian, reported that the drive which initially started in 10 towns has spread to 53 of Turkey's 81 provinces and over the past year 140,000 girls aged between seven to 13 years have enrolled in school.
