Turkey increases its boron exports by 36 percent to $442 million as of Oct.31 compared to the same period of 2007 and targets $1 billion in 2012, Anatolian Agency (AA) reported.

Turkey and the United States are the world's largest producers of boron, with Turkey holding almost 72 percent of the world’s boron potential and estimated reserves of just over 3 billion tons.

 

"Our exports were up 36 percent in the first ten months of this year, over the same period of last year," Orhan Yilmaz, the director general of Eti Maden (mining) Enterprises, told AA.

 

Yilmaz, who set the year-end export target of their enterprise as $550 million, also said that Turkey targets to earn $1 billion from boron exports in 2012.

Turkey's boron export reached $405 million in 2007.

 

Yilmaz said 63 countries including Argentina, Australia, Brazil, France are buying boron from Turkey.
