Currently in Tunis on a state visit, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan met with Tunisian Prime Minister Mohammed Ghannouchi yesterday to discuss a number of topics, including bilateral relations and the Cyprus issue. The visit is a historical one, Erdogan being the first Turkish leader to visit the country since 1989. Â When asked to describe relations between Turkey and Tunis, Ghannouchi said that he was pleased with relations and cooperation between the two countries, calling Turkey a "friendly country". Ghannouchi expressed his support for Turkey's EU membership and commented on Iraq, "Turkey and Tunisia both want the protection of Iraq's territorial integrity."
