The funeral for Private Selim Karabul, a Turkish soldier killed when a remote controlled mine exploded during an operation against the PKK in Siirt, saw an outburst from General Hursit Tolon of the Turkish Armed Forces. "Where are the defenders of human rights now? Does anyone see them?" said Tolon in an angry voice at the funeral proceedings. Tolon then went on: "This young soldier has died as a result of orders being given by a terrorist leader (referring to Ocalan) who is now in prison. But look around you, how many defenders of human rights are here now? We here now defend the rights of the young soldier who has died." Tolon himself helped carry the coffin of young Karabul, who was buried in a cematary in Umraniye. One soldier killed in DiyarbakirA terrorist attack on a group of gendarmes carrying out a search operation in the Silvan region of Diyarbakir wound up killing Sargeant Kahraman Cam. Around the same time, 2 more terrorists planning on using C-4 plastic explosive and other weapons to sow violence were caught and killed in Erzincan yesterday. Apparently their goal was to disrupt the May 19 (Ataturk's Youth Sports Day) ceremonies in that city.  Â
