Thousands protest Danish caricatures in Batman

Thousands of people protesting the Danish caricatures of the Prophet Mohammed in Turkey yesterday burned Danish and French flags in the Southeastern cities of Diyarbakir, Batman, and Sirnak.
In Batman, a demonstration staged in the central Republic square was attended by around 30 thousand people. In Sirnak, around 150 people came together to protest the caricatures in the city center, while in Mardin, a religiously mixed city, a written statement from differing religious groups was issued saying "The fact that so many religions have lived side by side for hundreds of years in our city should be a lesson to the Europeans."
