Sezer congratulates Romanian premier on country's acceptance into EU

President Ahmet Necdet Sezer hosted Romanian President Traian Basescu at Cankaya Palace in Ankara yesterday, congratulating the Romanian leader on his country's accession into the EU, an event which will take place formally in 2007. Said Sezer at a welcoming ceremony for Basescu, "We congratulate Romania on the signing of its EU membership protocols in April. This historical step brings our country, which is moving forward with the same goal, closer to your country." Basescu for his part said "Aside from the traditional cooperation that has existed between Romania and Turkey, Romania has felt great support from Turkey since it the start of its NATO membership. Now it is our turn to lend Turkey support. You can depend on Romania's support during this difficult period of European Union membership talks." Â
