Segolene Royal calls Sarkozy's stance on Turkey "wrong"

Segolene Royal, the expected candidate for the Socialist Party in France's upcoming presidential elections next year, has gone on record as saying that her probable opponent in the elections, Nicolas Sarkozy, is "wrong" in his stance against Turkish membership in the EU.

Speaking in Brussels on a visit with EU Commission head Jose Barroso, Royal said "I understand the worries of Europeans, but simplistic reactions like 'We must reject Turkey' will only bring forward disastrous results." Sarkozy is pushing for an alternative to full membership to be offered to Turkey.
