Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, in Trabzon for the opening of the 2005-2006 academic year of the Black Sea Technical University, responded to criticism aimed at his administration by opposition party members angered by a perceived AKP silence in the wake of terror events. Said Erdogan, "Each one of us is laden with a responsibility in terms of overcoming the difficulties in front of us. Please, let us not listen to marginal voices which are aimed at destroying our self confidence and puncturing our strengths." In the Black Sea region following trips to both the US and Saudi Arabia, PM Erdogan underlined Turkey's growth and strength, and stressed the importance of the people and the government trusting in eachother. Erdogan also mentioned what he perceived society's job to be at this time: "During this time period, let's focus all of our energy on working, producing, competition, quality, information, and reading accurately the events of the world."
