One dead and 33 missing as illegal migrant boat sinks

One person died and 33 were missing after a fishing boat carrying illegal migrant workers sank off the coast of northern Cyprus. The boat, which was carrying 39 asylum seekers sank approximately 3.5 km off the coast of northern Cyprus. The boat had set sail on Sunday night from Mersin, a city on the Mediterranean coast of Turkey. Two Syrian migrants were picked up by a tourist boat and handed over to coast guard officials. The search and rescue efforts continue for the missing 33 people. Â
