Oktay Eksi: Weakness of Turkeys captain, PM Erdogan

We are living in different Turkey since the prime minister stated: "What if the headscarf is being worn as a political symbol. Can you accept wearing a political symbol as a crime?" He made this response when asked by journalists his thoughts on claims that the headscarf was the symbol of politics, rather than religious piousness, on Jan 14, in Madrid.

We can even take the start of this period of turmoil back to April 24, in 2007 when PM Erdogan announced his "comrade's" candidacy for Turkey's presidency, refusing to consult with anybody.

Since then, we have been sailing aboard a ship whose rudder is locked in place and whose direction is at the mercy of the waves.

This picture reveals that Turkey is either "not being ruled well" or it is floundering under the regulation of a clumsy team.

We remember the rise in the tension and increased polarization, or more clearly, the "crisis" that has continued for the past 15 months in the country began when PM Erdogan said: "Turkey is no longer a country whose agenda is determined by others. Moreover, it is a country that has started to be among those that determine the global agenda."

Certainly, Turkey is one of those countries that determine the global agenda, but determining the agenda by the current method is not a reputable situation for Turkey.

What is more strange here, the PM who carries the responsibility of the current political, historical, social and moral condition in Turkey looks at this reality from the reverse.

Which is why he says:

"Ankara (Turkey’s capital) does not have the luxury of time to spend on never ending debates. These are loss for our country...Some could feel uneasy about the confidence and stability environment in the country. But we know there are two magic words for Turkey's growth and they are; stability and confidence.

"There are some who feel uncomfortable due to Turkey's development and progress and taking a role in global policies. They make an unending effort to capsize the ship on which they are passengers. They are attempting to condemn Turkey to being a backward country through fear scenarios and manufactured tension..."

The most basic and obvious question to put to PM Erdogan in response to these statements, had he made them at a press conference instead of at the group party meeting, would be:

"Mr. Prime Minister, you are speaking as if you are not the person who would be responsible for solving country’s problems when it is facing uncertainties and instability, while also ensuring that if there are people trying to sink the ship, they are stopped.  In such a case, aren't you aware of the seat that you occupy? "

We do not know how – if he didn’t just become angry - Mr. Prime Minister would respond to this question.
