Nuran's Life Did Not Suffice For The Law

While the law amendment, which will abolish the reduction of sentences in "honor murders", is still pending enforcement, one more girl at the age of 14, who was kidnapped and raped in Istanbul, was killed upon the decision of the members of her family.Nuran Halitogullari was kidnapped by Mevlut Sevinc when she was going to shopping from her apartment in Avcilar on March 30. Sevinc raped the little girl and held her for 4 days.The gendarme captured the suspect and saved Nuran and handed her  to her father. The family members of 32 people including Nuran's parents, siblings and relatives decided to  assassinate her on  grounds that "their honor was blemished."Her father M. Hanifi Halitogullari took her to the apartment of his sister  together with his son of 17 and killed her, by strangling her with a wire. The police, who brought out the murder arrested the father, the son and 13 members of the family.Â
