Seven trucks of LPG gas that were left floating in the Bosphorus after a roll-on-roll-off vessel sank just after ten o'clock, Saturdy night, are reported to be out of danger.

Maritime officials said they battled for ten hours against bad weather conditions to get control of the 138 tons of LPG gas.

"The danger is over. We were lucky," Deputy Undersecretary of the transport ministry Baris Tozar told reporters speaking with relief that further damage had not been caused to the coast line.

Five out the seven trucks have been towed to a quay on the Asian side of the city, but two still remain lying on rocks at Ahirkapi, a district on the European side of the city.

Tozar said that the last two trucks were under control and that one of them had been discharged of all gas after it sprung a leak. The other one started to leak while being towed and therefore had been left until Monday.
