The president of the Istanbul University Medical Faculty's Virology Department, Professor Selim Badur, has said that he has come doubts regarding information tying the deaths of 1,800 turkeys in the Manyas region of Turkey to the bird flu. Though if the H5N1 viral strain has been discovered, every single poultry animal in the area must be put under quarantine." Professor Badur also cast some doubt on the simultaneous deaths of 1,800 turkeys on a farm in Manyas, noting that it could be linked to another reason. Badur also stressed that bird flu could not be transferred to humans through the consumption of meat or eggs, but only through direct contact between sick live poultry and humans.
 
The Health Ministry said that the bird flu had only been seen so far in poultry animals, and that as far as humans were concerned, there were no signs of anyone in Turkey being infected.
