International Maritime Fest to be held in Marmaris

An International Maritime Festival to be held in Marmaris town of Aegean city of Mugla between April 27th and May 1st, Turkish Naval Force Command said. According to information obtained from the Command, war ships, school ships and yachts from Turkey and foreign countries will join the festival. One ship each from the United States, Russian Federation, Britain, Germany, Romania, Bulgaria, Australia, Greece, Israel, Ukraine, Italy, Spain, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates and Bahrain will arrive in Marmaris for the festival.Competitions, concerts, exhibitions and panel discussions will be held and films will be shown as a part of the festival. Famous Turkish diver Yasemin Dalkilic will try to break 125-meter diving record during the festival.Turkish President Ahmet Necdet Sezer, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Chief of General Staff Gen. Hilmi Ozkok, and some foreign officials are expected to join the festival which will last for five days, the Naval Forces Command said.The festival aims to promote Turkish maritime, support institutionalization of maritime culture, contribute to efforts to make Turkey a maritime country, and promote Marmaris.On the other hand, the Presidential Symphony Orchestra (CSO) will give a concert on board of a warship for the first time, as a part of the festival. The orchestra comprised of 80 people and conducted by Rengim Gokmen will take the stage aboard a frigate to anchor at the Marmaris Port on April 30th, said CSO Director Aycan Sancar.Sancar also said that the orchestra would also give a concert during the opening ceremony of the festival on April 28th, and play the symphony composed by Turgay Erdener for the Turkish Navy, for the first time.Some other concerts will also be given by the Naval Forces Command Band and the Janissary Band. Meanwhile, Mugla Governor Huseyin Aksoy predicted to host about 1,000 sportsmen and 50,000 foreign guests from 25-30 countries during the International Mugla Maritime Festival.Â
