Yesim Ustaoglu, who won the "Golden Shell" award at the 56th International San Sebastian Film Festival in Spain with her film "Pandora's Box" recounting the story of an alzheimer sufferer and her three children, said she dedicated the film to renowned literary critic and author Fethi Naci. Ustaoglu said, "He was my friend. He was somewhat like a father and is the source of inspiration for my film. If only he was not defeated by an illness like Alzheimer."

Turkey’s Fenerbahce soccer team tied with Dinamo Kiev of Ukraine in Istanbul in a Group G match of the European Champions League. The game drew 0-0. Fans of Fenerbahce were disappointed with the game played by their team on Tuesday night. Fenerbahce will play against Arsenal in their next match in the group.

-- TURKEY CELEBRATES RAMADAN FEAST
Turks all across Turkey celebrated the arrival of the Ramadan Feast on Tuesday. Turkish President Abdullah Gul conducted his Ramadan Feast prayers at Ankara's Kocatepe Mosque. Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan was in Istanbul on the first day of the Ramadan Feast. Erdogan distributed gifts and money to children in Istanbul. Mosques in Istanbul were full for the Ramadan Feast prayers on Tuesday morning.

After having lost three matches in the first five weeks of the Turkcell Super League in Turkey, Fenerbahce soccer team is also going through a tough time in the European Champions League. Fenerbahce drew a tie with Ukraine's Dinamo Kiev on Tuesday in Istanbul at Group G match in the European Champions League. The game ended 0-0. Fenerbahce is ranked last in Group G. Hundreds of Fenerbahce fans called for the resignation of the current Fenerbahce management following the game with Dinamo Kiev.

-- RAMADAN FEAST'S FIRST DAY TRAFFIC CASUALTIES: 13 KILLED
The traffic monster continued to work during the first day of the Ramadan Feast. In the past two days, 19 Turks have lost lives in traffic accidents throughout Turkey. During the same period, 164 Turks were injured in traffic accidents.

As libor interest rates exceeded 5 percent in European markets, some foreign banks suspended the loans given to the private sector in Turkey. As foreign banks, currently in Turkey through partnership of purchase, experience the worst years in Europe and in the United States, they continue to fund their centers by collecting deposits in Turkey. Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency (BDDK) and Savings Deposit Insurance Fund (TMSF) of Turkey remain silent.

The opening of the new term of the Turkish Parliament coincides with the second day of the Ramadan Feast. Participation to the general assembly meeting and a cocktail is expected to be low. Turkish ministers do not have concerns over the impacts of the global crisis in the world. The ministers think the economy of Turkey, which became stronger, will only be minimally affected by the crisis. State Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Cemil Cicek said, "Developments in the world will in this or that way have impacts on Turkey. However, you should know that Turkey is the only country that could overcome this crisis in the easiest way."

Turkish Petroleum Pipeline Corporation (BOTAS) announced that the price of natural gas used by residences would increase by 4.55 percent as of Oct. 1. The price of natural gas used in industry would increase by 4.69 percent as of Wednesday.
