-- HIDAYET: MAN OF DAY IN UNITED STATES
Orlando Magic basketball team defeated Los Angeles Lakers 108-104 in Game 3 of the NBA Finals. Hidayet Turkoglu, a Turkish player of Orlando Magic, scored 18 points in the game and was one of the leading architects of the victory over Los Angeles Lakers. Speaking to the TV channels, Magic Johnson eulogized Hidayet Turkoglu and said that Lakers players could not see how giant Hedo was. He also said when Hidayet took a backward step and had a shoot, there was nothing the defense could do.

-- TURKEY TO GROW 5-6 PCT IN FIVE YEARS
International financial services group, Credit Suisse forecast that eight emerging markets would grow 5-6 percent in five years. These markets are Turkey, China, India, Brazil, Mexico, Indonesia, Argentine, and South Africa.

According to the figures of the Turkish Board of Statistics, the capacity utilization rate in manufacturing industry was up 3.6 points over the previous year and reached 70.4 percent. Thus, the monthly rise that began in February continued and the capacity utilization rate reached its highest level since November 2008.

Orlando Magic basketball team defeated Los Angeles Lakers 108-104 in Game 3 of the NBA Finals. Hidayet Turkoglu scored 18 points in the game. Foreign Minister of Germany and leader of Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD), Frank-Walter Steinmeier, said he had difficulty in understanding the changes in Turkey's Republican People's Party (CHP). Steinmeier pointed out that Socialist International started monitoring CHP for its attitude towards Article 301 of the Turkish Penal Code and freedoms.

Radio and Television Supreme Council, rejected the proposal made by three members from CHP for cessation of Chairman Zahit Akman's membership, with 5 votes against three.

-- BAYKAL: VISIT TO BAGHDAD IS NATIONAL DUTY
Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Deniz Baykal who received an invitation from Iraqi President Jalal Talabani will soon be visiting Baghdad. The timing of the visit is not determined yet. Commenting on Talabani's invitation, Baykal said, "it is a very kind invitation. Topics high on the agenda will be discussed, mostly terrorism. The PKK terrorism that concerns us and the territorial and political integrity of Iraq will be discussed. When you look at it from this point of view, this visit emerges as a national duty."

-- AKMAN'S SEAT PROTECTED BY MEMBERS ELECTED BY AKP
The proposal for cessation of Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTUK) Chairman Zahid Akman's membership was rejected by members who were elected by Justice and Development Party (AKP). The three members who were elected by Republican People's Party (CHP) demanded cessation of Akman's membership on the grounds that an interim injunction was issued for Akman's assets under the Deniz Feneri fraud investigation and he had shares in two TV Channels. The proposal was rejected with three votes against five in a meeting which Akman did not attend.

-- SECRET DOLMABAHCE MEETING SHOULD BE MADE PUBLIC
Republican People's Party (CHP) deputy group chairman Atilla Kart demanded that Premier Tayyip Erdogan's meeting with then Chief of General Staff, retired gen. Yasar Buyukanit, at the Prime Ministry Office in Dolmabahce, be made public. Kart gave a parliamentary question motion on the issue.

-- ERDOGAN ANGERED OVER KARABULUT HOMICIDE
Premier Tayyip Erdogan criticized the fact that suspects of the Munevver Karabulut homicide had not yet been caught and said, "it's been two months and still no progress has been made. Erdogan said "the father is speaking to TV channels one by one, and he is being agitated. It is hard not to get emotional." Erdogan said it was not nice for the media to publish Karabulut's diary, and argued that the media was making trade over an homicide.

Leader of the German Social Democrat Party, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, criticized the Turkish main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) of not backing European Union (EU) targets. "We cannot understand their stance against the reform process and broadening freedom of thought," he said.

The International Press Institute (IPI) awarded Vuslat Dogan Sabanci, the chairperson of the Executive Board of the Hurriyet Journalism Corp., with life-long honorary executive board membership.

Frank-Walter Steinmeier, the German foreign minister and Social Democrat Party's candidate for chancellor, criticized Republican People's Party (CHP) chairman. Also a member of the Socialist International, Steinmeier said, "I regard it strange for the CHP not to favor Europe. The problem is not being against Europe and he is as if he is opposing the freedom of thought. We have set up a monitoring committee. CHP has not welcomed it, but our relations have come to this point because of CHP's stance."
