-- CITIZENSHIP INSTRUCTION GIVEN BY PRIME MINISTERÂ
Poet Nazim Hikmet, who was stripped of Turkish citizenship 58 years ago, will become a Turkish citizen again. Culture & Tourism Minister Ertugrul Gunay said, "the prime minister instructed relevant authorities to prepare a decree to abolish a former decree that stripped some people of Turkish citizenship in 1951."

-- TAX DEBT TO BE DRAWN FROM BANK ACCOUNTS
After the tax department automation project is implemented, tax debts can be drawn automatically from the bank accounts of tax payers. Taxes, fiscal penalties and interest rates will be collected on electronic medium. Three banks are preparing software for the project. Pilot implementation will begin after the software is ready. When the project spreads, e-collection will begin. The state can also sequester properties on the electronic world to collect the tax debts that are over the due date.

-- CIRCASSIANS ALSO WANTED BROADCAST
The Caucasian Associations Federation, which unites 56 Circassian associations representing six million Circassians living in Turkey under its umbrella, paid a visit to President Abdullah Gul. The federation demanded TV broadcasts in Circassian language.

-- NAZIM TO BECOME A TURKISH CITIZEN AGAIN
Nazim Hikmet, who was stripped of his citizenship in 1951 and died missing his home country 45 years ago, will acquire Turkish citizenship again. Government spokesman Cemil Cicek said that the decision stripping Hikmet of his citizenship, which did not have any meaning or legal grounds anymore, should be annulled.

-- BABACAN LEAVES FOR UNSC MEETING
Foreign Minister Ali Babacan has left for New York, the United States to attend a meeting on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. During a summit at the Cankaya Presidential Palace on Monday, it was decided that Babacan shall represent Turkey, which became a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, at the meeting in New York.

-- BLUE-EYED GIANT BACK AT HIS HOME
Important master of Turkish poetry Nazim Hikmet will be given back his citizenship right after 58 years. If his family wants, Nazim's body can be brought to Turkey. Council of Ministers decided to give back Nazim Hikmet his citizenship right. Nazim Hikmet was stripped of his citizenship in 1951. A decree, which will give Nazim back his reputation, was opened to signature of ministers.

Transportation Minister Binali Yildirim said that the problems regarding ban on internet sites could be overcome with experience. He said, "sometimes a web-site is completely banned instead of eliminating the harmful content." Yildirim also criticised YouTube for not obeying the rules.

-- HARSHEST REACTION FROM ERDOGAN, AHMEDINEJAD AND KADDAFI
While many Muslim-Arab leaders have a soft approach towards Israel, three leaders drew attention with their harsh stances. The speech delivered by Premier Tayyip Erdogan in the Mediterranean province of Antalya last weekend had repercussions in Israel. The Israeli media wrote the headline of "God will punish Israel" while covering Erdogan's remarks. In an interview with Al- Jazeera, Erdogan also said that Israel was the party that pulled the trigger and provoked the situation.

-- TURKEY'S GAZA MOVE
President Abdullah Gul, Premier Tayyip Erdogan and Foreign Minister Ali Babacan held a tripartite meeting on the developments in Gaza at Cankaya Presidential Palace. The idea to send a peacekeeping force to the region was discussed during the 1.5-hour meeting. Moreover, it was decided that Babacan shall go to New York to attend a UN meeting on the issue and Ahmet Davutoglu, chief advisor to the Turkish Premier, shall travel to the Syrian capital of Damascus to hold talks with French President Nicolas Sarkozy.

Turkish poet Nazim Hikmet will get his citizenship back which he lost 58 years ago. Government spokesman and deputy premier Cemil Cicek said that a decree was opened to signature which would grant Nazim Hikmet (who was stripped of his citizenship on July 25, 1951) his citizenship back.

Internet site Debka, which is known with its closeness to Israeli intelligence, wrote that USA's Middle East policy would be hampered if Turkish Premier Tayyip Erdogan decided to freeze Turkish-Israeli relations. The site also stressed that if Erdogan made such a decision, share of intelligence in the north of Iraq would be harmed significantly.

As the amount of natural gas inflow via Ukraine, which is having a disagreement with Russia, dropped, Turkey increased the amount of natural gas it gets via the Blue Stream pipeline. Greece may also purchase natural gas from Turkey.

-- HIGH-SPEED TRAIN TO BE READY IN FEBRUARY
High-speed train service between Ankara and central city of Eskisehir will begin no later than February to test whether people are interested in the project and whether they are pleased with it. The ticket prices will be set according to costs of the test run.

-- STOCK EXCHANGE WILL MAKE PEOPLE WIN
Huseyin Erkan, the chairman of the Istanbul Stock Exchange (IMKB), said that the price/win rate, which was the most important indicator at a stock exchange, was at the lowest level. "We have the lowest stock exchange in the world. There will be wins in 2009," Erkan also said.

-- NAZIM HIKMET TO BE GIVEN BACK HIS REPUTATION
The government is giving back Turkish citizenship to poet Nazim Hikmet, who was stripped of citizenship in 1951 for he ran abroad. Hikmet is being given back his reputation years after he died. Deputy Prime Minister Cemil Cicek said, "there is no obstacle before Nazim's citizenship."

-- THREE MORE GIANT COMPANIES TO BE PRIVATIZED
The Petroleum Pipeline Corporation (BOTAS), Mechanical and Chemical Industry Corporation (MKE), and Turkish Coal Enterprises (TKI) are at the top of the list of state enterprises that will be sold after the economic crisis. Metin Kilci, the head of the Privatization Administration Board, said, "BOTAS, MKE and TKI can be privatized soon." Kilci also said that the board transferred 5 billion Turkish liras (TL) from privatization tenders to the Treasury in 2008.
