A publishing company based in Germany that publishes a newspaper, which is believed to be the "mouthpiece" of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) as German Interior Minister Otto Schilly put it, was closed down on Monday, and all business was put on hold. E. Xani publishing, which publishes the newspaper "Ozgur Politika" with a circulation of around 10,000, was suspended from all business activity on Monday. The newspaper is said to use methods of propaganda to rally support for the Kurdish desire to create an independent state in Turkey.

Interior Minister Otto Schily said, "The government is taking decisive action against any activities which have an extremist or terrorist background."

Although a one-month ceasefire was called last month by the PKK in order to open a dialogue with the Turkish government, Turkish security forces have said that opeartions are still being carried out in the south east.
