Four outlawed PKK separatists were killed in clashes with Turkish security forces in a southeastern province of Turkey, the General Staff said Thursday in a statement posted on its website. (UPDATED)

Four outlawed PKK separatists were killed in clashes with Turkish security forces in the Beytussebap district of the Sirnak province, the statement said.

The four had escaped after carrying out a rocket attack on a gendarmerie headquarter in Beytussebap on Monday, it added.

Another outlawed PKK separatist surrended to Turkish security forces in another southeastern province of Turkey, Hakkari, the army also said.

Turkey, provided with intelligence by the United States, has stepped up military action against the outlawed separatist PKK since December.Â

The PKK is listed as a terrorist group by much of the international community including the United States and the EU.Â
