While the President of the Turkish Republic, Ahmet Necdet Sezer, declared his views against Turkey entering Lebanon, Prime Minister Erdoğan was busy discussing the same issue on the telephone yesterday.

Gathering with AKP MP’s from the Black Sea region yesterday, Erdoğan spoke certainly when he said, “We must enter Lebanon”.  In a later telephone conversation with the Lebanese Prime Minister, Fuad Sinyora, Erdoğan replied to Sinyora’s plee to “not leave us alone”. “We are with you”, Erdoğan said.

In the evening, Prime Minister Erdoğan also spoke to the United Nations General Secretary, Kofi Annan, who has asked for Turkey to be added to the peacekeeping force, and who is to visit Ankara on 6th September.

Mr. Erdoğan left questions about President Sezer’s statements unanswered.
