Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, responding to mounting criticism surrounding the privatization auctions of formerly state controlled enterprises over recent days, reserved sharp words for the media. "Up until now I have not really dealt with it, but starting now, I will begin to focus on the media," said Erdogan.

At the opening of a park in Hatay, the PM said that the goal of some political leaders recently has been to make the public not see the success of his administration, and that the media was complicit in helping them do so.

As an example of his frustration with the media, PM Erdogan mentioned the opening of 1,001 schools in Istanbul recently, an event which he claimed took very little space in the media. "Unfortunately, they seem to be set on making me look wrong. I invite them to be honest. Let them criticize the mistakes, but then they should also be documenting the truths. They are after a revolution. How they blacken everything. A woman somewhere holds up a poster asking "Whose Prime Minister are you?" This news is blown out of proportion, in fact, one newspaper uses the phrase "Whose Prime Minister are you?" as its headline. I am the prime minister of the Turkish people, of the Turkish Republic, and that's that."
