Turkish civilian and military leaders discussed the tension surrounding Lebanon yesterday at a ball at the Gazi Military House given in honor of August 30 ceremonies in Ankara. Among those present at the ball were Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul, and Commander of the Turkish Armed Forces, General Yasar Buyukanit.

Also discussed was reportedly the subject of Iranian aircraft subject to Turkish inspection as it flies over Turkish soil. Said Air Force General Faruk Comert, "This is a normal international implementation. As it is, right now, we force every one plane in five (of military planes) to land so we can inspect it. We have told Iran about our intents on this subject before. In fact, even just yesterday we asked one to land. It's load was inspected, and it was then given permission to take off again."

General Comert was asked at the ball "Are you going to carry out an operation against the Kandil Mountains?" to which he answered "In order to obtain results from the air, some serious research needs to take place. We call this 'point-communication.' It is only with this point-communication that we can hit things from the air. However, this is not what we have right now."
