I have never seen such a "nationalist party" in my life before. Here is one which is proposing to its own people to take up Arab culture.

It is possible, by contrast, to understand why the ruling AKP would do this; because the AKP uses religion as a unifying element, and rejects nationalism.

But the MHP?....

What kind of nationalism is this? Instead of opening the path for its own nation towards modernity, it opens the path towards Arab culture left over from the middle ages?

Would someone please explain to me what kind of "nationalism" this is, turning the most beautiful culture in the world, a culture that exists in some of the best geography in the world, towards Arabistan?

Because this is exactly what the MHP is doing.

Before our recent general elections, there were some writers who insisted that votes should be given to the nationalist MHP, rather than the CHP, to prevent against a possible "religious revolution."

And now we are all regretful that this happened.

Because it turns out that, after collecting votes from people who would have instead voted for the CHP, the MHP is working collaboratively with the AKP.

They have become a kind of "crutch" for the AKP.

Whenever the ruling AKP faces the angry reactions of the defenders of the secular republic, the MHP rushes to offer their support.

Maybe they think they'll pick up some votes from the AKP!

In the end, we will all see the real results: with the support offered by the MHP to the AKP, the turban (headscarf) will be freed up for not only Turkish universities, but all of the public sector jobs too.

Well, bravo to the MHP.

But shouldn't it have been the so-called "nationalists" who stood up to defend the secular republic that was formed and founded after so much pain and war?

Isn't "nationalism" all about fighting for and defending a nation's modernity, civilization, and enlightenment?

Or else...

Is it about something else all together in the end?
