Bearing Manufacturer Wins Case Against EU

Turkish YEDAS Company has sued the European Union, saying that it had sufferred losses due to the Customs Union that is in effect between Turkey and the European Union. The EU Legal Court reversed the ruling of the EU Council that the case could not be heard.

In this first compensation case launched by the Turkish company against the EU, the Court overruled the objection of the EU Council and the EU Commission. According to jurists, the car bearing manufacturer company sued the EU three years ago, demanding compensation of 4.5 million Euros, because of the scrapping of the customs duties by Turkey of European goods.
Attorney Selim Sariibrahimoglu said "This ruling is the confirmation that Turkey is an irreversible part of the EU. "It is a revolutionary decision.
