Former Culture and Tourism Minister Erkan Mumcu clarified his opinion yesterday with regards to his differences with the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP): "I am a liberalistic democrat; they are conservative democrats. For example, I consider the headscarf as a fundamental right of an individual. They say that headscarf is the defense of conservative values."

He added, "This is a very important ideological difference. I think that this ideological difference has an equivalent in life. The politicization of that equivalent is a problem of process. I am not in a hurry. I am condemned to live for long time!"
I asked, "Some people write seriously that Erkan Mumcu is in contact with CHP. Does this have a legitimate founding?" Mumcu said, 'No, All of it is made-up! I have no contact with CHP. I put forward my principles clearly. It should be looked at as it it presented, how it is.'"
